Tektro HO
Tektro mechanical disc brakes came on my bike stock. After a few months they started to wear out (not the pads) and the bike would not stop. I ended up upgrading.

Stops fast and don’t have to worry about hydrolics. I was confused on how to adjust but over all they are great.

Avid Juicy 7
Great stopping power and modulation. You need an expensive bleeding kit? Great for XC and single track no weaknesses!

Avid Disc Brake Pads
I used to buy the clones. They wear REALLY fast with any compound. Now only buy these again cause they last at least 3-4 times as long so much more worry free. These out-last all others buy a wide margin and squeal free.

Elixir CR 2009
First, it enables you to perfectly match your hand’s comfort with the brakes power. It also allows you to balance both levers so the pads engage the rotors in the same spot. No more uneven brake levers.

Avid BB5 Mechanical Disc Brake
Since they came on the bike they are great. If I was to buy new I would go with the BB7's but have no need to upgrade at this time. HAve worked excellent stopping all 220 lbs down some steep hills.
Disc Brakes, Slightly better than V-Brakes

Avid Speed Dial 2.0L
Great lever that's withstood the test of time. I took them off my old bike and put them on the new one since they felt so good. They're perfect with the Avid discs; adjustments are so easy, and I can get the brakes to feel exactly how I want, from super sensitive on/off braking, to extreme modulation. easy to adjust great modulation lasted me 5 years and still going strong

Avid Speed Dial 7
I was lucky enough to find these 2005 Speed Dial SL's for just two dollars more than what the 2006 FR 5s were going for. I didn't anticipate the speed dial adjustability to work so well. Powerful, reasonably light, easy to use and adjust on the fly. awesome.

Therapy Components Brake Therapy Floating Brake Co
This thing is awesome. Of course, I might be biased because it is the only way I had to convert my Proflex K2 5000. My bike definitely handles better with this product. The difference seemed subtle at first, but the more I use it, the better I like it.

TekTro Quartze Series
Price, weight, looks. Can be made to work with handles meant for cantis.I was skeptical about a complete V-brake system for $35 - a Shimano LX system would have cost at least twice that. I like LX brakes very much, BTW.
